Contemporary with Marla

Amber is a professional dance artist, environmental activist and aspiring writer from Cardiff. She trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, and graduated in 2020 with a First-Class Honours. She is a founding member of ‘Rubicon Dance Company’, and is currently rehearsing with Jamiel Laurence for their December performances of The Nutcracker, alongside being a pole dance and heels instructor.

She has had the pleasure of working with Lea Anderson MBE, Wayne Parsons, The Hiccup Project, Caroline Finn, Krystal S. Lowe, Instant Dissidence, Fernanda Prata, and Ewan Jones for Netflix’s Sex Education. She has also co-founded a physical theatre company 'Yoodaloo Dance Theatre', striving to bridge the gap between activism and performance and align her sustainable values with her career.

Amber’s teaching principles are grounded in play, learner enjoyment, being present, and building a sense of humanity and connection. Through experiential learning and communication, she aims to provide a space to move with each other and prompt a deeper comprehension of self-discovery in the process. Amber’s contemporary classes take influences from Cunningham, Release and Flying Low to focus on grounding the body, shifting through the space and connecting to those around you.

As a passionate and enthusiastic teacher, she strives to ensure her classes are fun, energetic and most importantly, about the individual. In this supportive and inclusive environment, she opens up a space for people to try, fail, play and experiment without judgement. This is reinforced by her strong belief that effort and perseverance are much more valuable than exceptional ability.
